I saw this guy who translated. He said one thing in djelian, and then translated it. Any ideas about this?

Yes, you do it with a trigger and an alias. As triggers are outlawed if they have any effect in the MUD then I would think this will not be acceptable to the Cre's. However they may turn a blind eye to one or two as they do no harm or help you over another player but if every one uses it, it may start to be a problem.

You can do it with just a simple alias. No trigger is necessary.
alias sayd say #djelian $*$;say #morporkian $*$
Or use an emote for the translation..
alias sayd say #djelian $*$;emote translates $*$

no, it was like,
Greygrene says in Djelian: khop-hip-smirn. Greygrene translates: Hello.
you see, the mud actually puts that in instead of saying you say.

That is an emote.
alias sayd say #djelian $*$;emote translates: $*$
sayd Klatch is full of sandfleas.
Noob says in Djelian: Khat-splat dhip dhip. Noob translates: Klatch is full of sandfleas.

I've seen variations of this a few times. I don't see that the use of this alias is any problem whatsoever. I think if anything it is very helpful to those who have low spoken in whatever language the other person is speaking. People can have a conversation and still manage possible tm's for the person with lower skills. This shouldn't be any kind of issue in terms of rules violations.

So you can translate into the other persons language? say for example that you are in agaetan and can't speak it very well. You can emote and the agatean speaker will be able to understand you? Even if he can't speak morporkian very well?

Yes, emotes do not matter what language you are speaking. They appear as you type them, similar to souls.

Sorry yes you can do it with just an alias for your own 'say' but the trigger solution will act like a true translator for anyone speaking, provided the 'translator' has the language skills. It will also handle all languages. I said alias but I did in fact mean to say emote. Not a good day, I must have been drunk ;D
I didn't say that an alias was a problem Buggy, only a trigger.
