Any ideas where to start with True Alchemist? Is it random? Do the chemicals represent real things (guano for nitrate, e.g., and yellow powder might be sulphur)? Does the fact that he asks for scumble have any bearing?

Going to the library in the Alchemists' Guild and 'research'ing will help you here. You'll find pieces of paper with snippets of information from which you can work out what he's asking of you.

That's the thing, he's not asking anything. You're not thinking of Cadaver Corroder, are you?

Sorry, I was thinking of Midas in Reverse. I haven't had any luck with True Alchemist, but I'm going to go through sytematically and try every combination. One day.

No point having a system for this one. When I got it I pulled a combination I'd used before with no effect.

Ok, thanks for that. I've tried all sorts of logical things, none of which worked, so I guess it's something to know that I just have to keep pulling levers, and not thinking.

He asks for scumble. Had you given him any when you got the quest? Or had done anything other than pulled levers at random?

You can ignore his requests for Scumble. You'll get no thanks from the ungrateful bugger. Just pull levers (pref. inc at least one of 8-10) and press the button. And then fix your broken limbs when you get the quest!

Oh, and each combo has to have 6 lever pulls in total.

Lemme see... The Alchemist guild has a machine, I think, that can be led to explode but it doesn't give you any quest... That's the Nitrolator. But for this quest, you are supposed to use the Amalgamator (in another room) by moving its levers. Am I right?
I've been trying this quest, which seems impossible. 10 levers in any possible random combination of 6 cannot be the anwer (that's MILLIONS of combinations). Some mention the last three (8-10). Maybe one should try all possible combinations of those three to fill the six puls (that would be 6 times 10, 6 times 9, 6 times 8, 5 times 10 + 9, 5 times 10 + 8, 5 times 9 + 10, 5 times 9 + 8... and so on. That looks more reasonable (it is still a hell of a lot of possible combinations).
So what do you think? Anyone solved it and seen something like this?

As stated above, there is no right and wrong combinations. Every time you do it the combination will be different, without any 'memory' (if you're a probability technician). The best thing is to try a random combination every time, using mainly levers 8-10. Again, as with lotto, the randomisation has no 'memory', so using the same combination again and again with the theory that your number must come up some time doesn't work .

All right. I bow and believe. And yet, it turns out to be quite a silly quest then, really. There's nothing intelligent to do. Just try chances, when the number of possible combinations is astronomical... Anybody got the quest?

I got it. Not that it'll help, but my winning combo was pulling lever 10 six times. (And the most intelligence you need is to be able to count to 6. It's an equal ops quest! )

What is the syntax for this?
Pull lever on amalgamator doesn;t work, pull lever 10 on amalgamtor isn't right, just pull lever 10 doesn't work either.
What am I doing wrong?
