Erm, not quite sure here, as I've never used a playershop moneychangers before... but I was under the impression that those were there to change your small cash into larger coins? Like, for example(ignoring the 2% fee) if you had 50 rhinu coins, you could get them changed to a single 50-rhinu coin, but not to another currency. That was my impression, anyway.

Gottit
Quote..... The money changer will change coins of one Morporkian denomination for coins of another Morporkian denomination.
The command is "change" and the money changer may be referred to as "changer", so you can "change pence into dollars on changer" or "change coins into royals on changer". There is a 1% fee. If you specify an exact amount of coins, please allow for the fee, e.g. "change 101 pence into dollars on changer" or "change 1010 pence into ten-dollars on changer".
....Unquote

Maybe you have to put in the exact amount for the change eg. if you have 101 pence, "change 100 pence in dollars on changer" leaving out the extra one pence. I've found these things pretty touchy about it too.
