Hi folks
From your experience, what's the quickest way to TM learning a language (assuming you've done all formal educational)

Depends on the language. For Agatean it's easy, just hang around Bes Pelargic alot, read signs, boards, samurai newbie guides, and listen to ryattenoki and miss information.
For Djelian, the same, hang around Djelibeybi, just listen to people alot.
Morporkian is probably the easiest as there are so many places that speak it, pretty much impossible not to TM.
Ephebian and Uberwaldean are definitely the hardest, especially Ephebian as the oasis is usually so empty.
A good way to TM language(any language) is to get a group of people(one of them with high spoken levels in the language you want to TM, preferably) and get a pamphlet from Constable Visit, have everyone read the pamphlet and you'll all babble at each other for pretty much ages as you'll keep infecting one another.

To TM you need to hear a piece of dialogue or read some text in the language you want to learn so that it uses GP. You wont use GP if you use the hear/read the same thing over and over again. The easiest languages are Morporkian, Agatean and Djelian since there are plenty of chatty NPCs, if you just fight in the area and make sure you have enough GP you should reach level 70 in no time.
Generally shops are good, shopkeepers usually comment when you enter their shop or browse an item. Wandering NPC merchants/traders etc are good since you can list their inventory, if you still have GP you can always browse individual items to hear their description.
There are farmers in the terrains just outside Ephebe who speak ephebian a fair bit. Since Ephebe isn't in the game yet I wouldn't bother trying to learn the language.
The terrains in the uberwald area are also full of NPCs that speak Uberwaldean - hunters etc. Just make sure you don't wander into the werewolf areas.

There seems to be some kind of check or limit to slow down language TMs. Sitting around all day spamming turn page/read page gives you pathetically few written TMs. I seem to be getting more TMs when I break up the reading with other commands, such as hide. It sucks, but those are the breaks it seems.

It slows down 1) - because it takes up more gp at higher levels 2) - there is a wait period between any 2 TMs of the same skill, so no matter how much gp you have or how much you spam it(with complicated words) you will still have to wait a minimum amount of time

Generally if I do nothing but sit and read/hide until I'm out of covert gp (I have less covert than other gp) I tm once every 22-45 minutes, with some exceptions. I'm also getting a fair number of hiding tms to boot, which is a nice bonus.

For example, Morporkian is best if you just hang around The Drum. Sometimes that place is nothing but a chat room. Or if you find the imp in the Unseen University, ranting about this and that.

At last, a question right up my alley.
For spoken, as previously written, language groups are a good idea. Having trouble finding people to spam with? Who cunning linguists is your friend here. I founded this club to help people find spam groups. Also, don't neglect grouping... a witch or a warrior in your group who is fluent in a language you are working on can pump out those tm's in rapid-fire fashion with mocking and warcries, respectively. Also, the Kompt de Yoyo in AM's Assassin Guild will happily tell stories in foreign languages. When I was working on my spokens, he would give you 5 stanzas in a language per story, and any class could request them, if courteous. Sadly, the stories have been compacted to just 1 stanza each, and only assassins can request them these days... but many assassins idling in their guild will happily offer their help with this... just keep them appraised of current gp levels, and when you tm a level, switch to a second language. Finally, the addition of the Ephebian speaking farm gives people a spam spot for that language that isn't way out in the middle of nowhere. There used to be a trick one could use to tm solo using a ventriloquist's dummy, but the mud got savvy to that one and it no longer works.
Written is the biggest challenge for all languages, but it is easily solved... work on those first. Get a book written in that language, and if you say you can't, I say you aren't looking... dictionaries written in a language to aid in learning Agatean are easily shoplifted or purchased at the BP Language Institute. The idea is to stagger your tm's, and to maximize your chances, remember that you will gain ot.po tm's from reading/listening to languages as well as language tm's. The reason I say to do written first is it normally takes longer, but with frequent ot.po tm's flowing, you'll get there quickly. The other popular method is the hunt, read, turn page for next time, bury corpse method. This gives a chance to kill for fighting tm's, read for written or ot.po tm's, and then replenish some gp with the bury. Finally, as with spoken, working on two languages at once is preferable... read in Uberwaldean, for example, until you tm a level, then switch to Ephebian until you get one... this way, it doesn't seem like so long between tm's, and if working on all 4 other languages at once, you will find your written tm's soaring.
Hope this helps you all out!
