you need a hammer to pulverise the rocks.
linseed oil can be bought from the shop, and there's a well you can get water from. empty bottles can be found in the bin in the kitchen.

Okay, you can get green, purple, orange and the darker versions of these colours easily, but how do you get light colours? Chalk doesn't work, it doesn't seem to let you add water or oil to the paints... can't make a batch of paint without the coloured powders... How???

Mix with different amounts of paint. So if you need a lighter shade, use less of a colour that would make it darker.

How do you actually get him to say exactly what shade he wants?

The mixing bowl is in the room east of him. You can't pick it up, it's just part of the room.

I gave up on this in the end.
Artist wanted light red shade, but try as I might I couldn't get it.
It is really tricky because I tried mixing small amounts into smaller bottles first, but the colours didn't mix, and instead I had red and blue paint in a bottle, not a shade. And when you mix 1/10 or red into bowl, you actually end up pouring almost half the bottle into the bowl, so you end up using a whole bottle much quicker than you anticipated.
IF anyone can get a light red, please share how to do it.

Light red is really easy to make If you know how to make black do tell! I know that should be the easiest but it's buggering out on me first 10/100 of yellow paint then 10/100 of blue then 10/100 of red

Any idea how to get dark red? So far I've gotten vibrant red + vibrant blue -> purple, which is not terribly surprising.

black is easy, you just "mix <bottle> into bowl" for each one - equal quantities of each paint.
green = 1 blue, 1 yellow orange = 1 red, 1 yellow purple = 1 blue, 1 red light green = 1 red, 2 blue, 2 yellow light grey = 1 blue, 1 red, 2 yellow light purple = 2 blue, 1 red dark green = 1 yellow, 2 blue dark grey = 1 blue, 2 red, 1 yellow
