For any still wondering this. You hit balls with a staff (defined in the wizard way, anything that can octograve, not any polearm).

Differant coloured balls require differant magical methods as skills to strike them.
I dont have a list, try some obvious ones. Red fire, brown earth etc. The higher the bonus you have the fancier the shot and the more points you score
