I think the dummy has about four or five bolts.
If you miss with every one you have to re-do the whole thing again a day or so later. (check the dummy for bolts to know when - it may need a re-boot?)
Hence the need fo fi.co.ra.fi 130 or fi.ra.fi now.

Yeah that is the easy bit, but with my alt i cant even string the crossbow to begin with, it just says i use to much force and the string snaps. Firing the bolt and greasing the crossbow after been stringed is the easy bit...... stringing it is the problem!

Did anyone ever get to the bottom of this? My sm.bl.we is 129, and fi.ra.fi 152, but on every occasion, I break the string during the repair. Any ideas guys and gals?

how about co.manip.sleight ? that sounds like the skill -I'd- need most to manually twitch a crossbow string into place. and it's been used in some other quests lately IIRC.

I'm fairly sure the skill required now is fi.ra.bow rather than .fired, since I had almost 200 bonus in fired, couldnt hit it, then advanced .bow to a 145 bonus and hit the dummy in the chest. Nothing else has happened yet, though...I didnt get the quest.

Ok, something did happen. When I fired the ninth bolt (There were ten in the dummy, by the way. Not sure if thats normal or just an excessive regen) I got;
As the bolt speeds away, there is a nasty crunching sound somewhere in the crossbow. The string snaps and something is propelled off skywards. So much for this crossbow.
and it returns to the state it was in before fixing.

I recently did the quest and only have an 82 bonus in bow, but I have a 217 bonus in fired. I'm pretty sure it would be fired, or maybe its the bonus for fi.ra

seems stupid but I was having trouble with this quest for the simple reason that I wasn't holding the crossbow when I was trying to string it, when I had the bow in my inventory the string kept snapping but when I eventually sheathed my weapons and held the bow it worked.

I don't get it. I have fi.ra.fi 169, and cr.sm.bl.we 170, and I still keep breaking the string. I've tried the trick of holding the crossbow while stringing it. No effect. I've tried about ten times so far (at a cost of over $100 in strings). Should I just keep trying, or do I need to raise my skill level?

According to the disc quest site, the skill check is fi.sp.we for some reason.

Still not sure about which skills are needed, but I just did the quest first time around with the following bonuses:
fi.ra.fired 134 fi.sp.weapon 137 cr.sm..bl.weapons 142
Also, I was holding the crossbow while I stringed it.
