When you talk to Gordo Smith, he tells you you need to buy a tree marking guide from the general shop. After I buy the guide, he still says I need to have a guide. Is this just an unfinished quest or am I missing something?

The guide is a paperback book. Also, he often says that Kev is busy, so I think you have to time it right.

ARG!!! I have the book and a knife, no problems there. But when i go ask Gordo about marking the trees, he gives me one of two responses: "I think Kev is busy right now, come back later" or "Come back in the morning, I wouldn't do it at night or we might have to use them ourselves". I went at 5:50 dw time when Kev was still there, but I got the second message. I asked about 5 dw minutes later and got the first message, about how Kev was busy (Kev walked out JUST as I was asking about the carvings). Maybe you've got to ask just before he walks out?

Now that it's winter, if you try this one Gordo gives you a beer for offering. If you drink it, you wind up in the middle of the forest. You can "feel marks" on the trees, but trying to "head" that (or any other) direction got me a message saying "You look around, but you seem very lost. Maybe you should try shouting for help." If I try just going in the direction the marks indicate, the next set of marks will tell me to go in a different direction. Any clues?

I'm told the quest is bugged and if you follow the the markings on the trees to the end you get stuck in the forest.
This is just hearsay I haven't done it myself.

Actually, getting out of the forest isn't a quest, as it turns out. You need some ot.di (bonus of 150-ish), but getting out can tm ot.di.
