Blue rings snap you back to a pre-determined point - handy if your in trouble. They were taken out of the game for a while and I don't know if they are back, or just old ones around.
Pink Rings restore GP.
You could buy them along with similar stuff at the magic shop in Hillshire, I assume this is still the case.

They're back and take you to a random point on disc.

oh also, i just found out about this recently, when you use a blue ring it takes a while to recharge, so if you end up in a dangerous area it pays to carry 2 rings
